Hi, I'm Ergi,
visual designer and illustrator
I came to design looking for a way to express myself, while exploring and solving problems at the same time. That impulse has taken me through many disciplines over the years, from electronic music and experimental film to drawing and publishing satirical cartoons.
That same impulse eventually led me to technology, which feels more and more out of control nowadays. Design in technology is being used to distance and harm us, through dark patterns and algorithms that feed addiction. But it can just as easily give us freedom, by finding new ways to build trust and making life easier, more accessible, and why not, prettier.
This is what motivates me to keep contributing my expertise to sovereign tech, to organizations that advocate for digital rights, and to people building open and free technology.
I named my grotesque black-and-white drawings Tronkilu, which is where tronkilu.studio comes from, the name I chose for this practice.
Practice
My work covers visual identity, design systems, editorial and layout design, accessible design, and auditing. My academic background is in computer science, which keeps me comfortable with the technical and systematic aspects of a project as much as the creative one.
Since 2018 I've had the pleasure of working with the team at Ura Design as Visual Design Lead, helping with identity, reports and publications, interfaces, and communications. During this time I've worked with many organizations and initiatives in open technology and internet freedom, such as platforms for censorship measurement and privacy protection, helping them build trust, and reach the people who rely on them.
